| DIXON-RHYNE PROJECT |
|
Its clear that The Dixon-Rhyne Project is no ordinary organ quartet. They deftly combine old school elements and modern modes of expression to arrive at a startlingly fresh place - essentially, a Reinvention of the jazz organ quartet. Co-led by saxophonist Rob Dixon and the vererable Hammond B-3 maven, Melvin Rhyne, whose association with jazz guitar legend and fellow Indianapolis native, Wes Montgomery during his classic Riverside phase has earned him a hallowed place in jazz history. The Dixon-Rhyne Project easily crosses over from the jazz camp in to the jam band zone where other organ-driven instrument groove jazz groups like Soulive and the Greyboy All-Stars dwell. Added into the mix with Dixon and Rhyne is Chicago guitarist Fareed Haque and powerhouse drummer Kenny Phelps.
